ANDREA NATALIA TORRES ÁLVAREZ
Andrea Torres Alvarez is a Colombian viola player, winner of the "Young Talents 2017 Artist" ICETEX scholarship in Colombia to study the Master's Degree viola performance at the Maastricht Conservatorium in The Netherlands in the class of Julia Dinerstein. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the National Conservatory of Music from National University of Colombia.
Winner of “Young Performers 2010” award with the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Conservatory of Tolima, organized by the Republic National Bank and “Young Performers 2012” award with “Ímpetu String Quartet”. Has taken Viola and Chamber Music master classes with: Michael Kugel, Mikhail Zemtsov, Alexander Zemtsov, Dana Zemtsov, Henk Guittart, Paul Cortese, Richard Young, Raúl García, Miami String Quartet, Kuss Quartet, Lincoln Trio, Catalyst Quartet, Carducci String Quartet, among others. Has given concerts and recitals in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain and USA.
Has been viola music player of Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Maastricht Conservatorium Orchestra, Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Bogotá, Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Colombia, National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, New Philharmony of Colombia, Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá (FOSBO), among others. Invited soloist to play in the final concert of “I encuentro interuniversitario de Violas” in Bogotá (2010), recital “Noche de Violas” in the second version (2012) and the final concert in the third version (2015). As a teacher she was a coach of the main orchestra of the national foundation Batuta in Colombia.
Foundation focused on social programs for children and youth in Colombia through music. She is currently principal viola at the Amikejo, Limburgs Jeugd Symfonie Orkest in The Netherlands.
